EABC - CENIT@EA Embark on Digital Transformation of East
Africa
Kigali, Rwanda: July 18, 2019: The ICT4BUSINESS
event brings together top executives and technical experts from private sector
associations and companies in Rwanda engaged in manufacturing, production,
Information Technology, telecommunications to gain an up-to-date understanding
of the trends in the field of ICT specifically Embedded and Mobile Systems.
Digitalization
is increasingly gaining momentum, rising productivity levels in industries and
creating new business models. In order to cope, or even better actively shape,
the digital transformation, companies require the relevant skills in
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to be able to profit from new
technologies and strengthen their competitiveness in the market. The growing
demand for digital services has, for instance, led to increased development of
Embedded and Mobile Systems (EMoS) in the East African region. The EMoS market
is expected to generate a revenue of USD 225.34 billion by 2021.
In his opening remarks
Mr. Denis Karera, EABC Vice-Chairman said:” ICT saves time and cost of doing
business.” He called for a digital
revolution on how East Africans trade ex. payments, comparing standard,
making a business decision in a bid to boost intra EAC trade and competitiveness
in light of AfCFTA.
“To position the
EAC in the Continental Market, East
African businesses should use ICT to come up with competitive products in terms
of price and quality,” said Chairman Karera.
In his remarks
Mr. Daniel Murenzi, Principal IT Officer EAC said ICT can make business in the
region easier and quicker, the East
African Community has implemented the e-passport, Single Window and East
African Payment Systems.
“This ICT4Business event
aims to bring closer exchange and collaboration between private sector and
academia to enhance digital and economic development through Embedded Mobile Systems,” said Dr. Kirsten
Focken, Cluster Coordinator for EAC
Cooperation, GIZ.
The event
offers a platform to learn about innovative cooperative education, initiate an
exchange about possibilities of practical cooperation between industry and
CENIT@EA so that industries do not only cope with the digital transformation
but shape it to their benefit.
The EAC’s
industrialization depends on how the region strategically leverages the market
created by the Common Market Protocol as a source or stimulus for demand while
capitalizing on opportunities created by the fast-growing global and emerging
markets. The application of embedded and mobile systems in industrial
automation, banking and surveillance and other areas is essential for
industrial development in the region. This, in turn, makes capacity development
concerning technologies such as embedded and mobile systems important for the
East African Partner States.
CENIT@EA
currently offers a Master’s programme for Embedded and Mobile Systems as well
as trainings and research. In order to design its activities to solve
industry-specific issues and provide appropriate solutions, CENIT@EA is
committed to closely involve all relevant stakeholders from the private and public
sector
The
ICT4Business event is organized by the East African Business Council in
collaboration with the Private Sector Federation Rwanda, Centre of Excellence for ICT in East Africa

(NM-AIST) and with support the German
Development Cooperation.
