Dar es salaam,
Tanzania: July 14th, 2017: The East African
Business Council will engage Dr. Anna P. Makakala, Commissioner General of
Tanzania Immigration Services Department on free movement of workers and
resident permit issues that the business community and investors face with
respect to Immigration Law and the EAC Common Market Protocol, during EABC
Regional Public - Private Dialogue with Trade Facilitation Agencies on Friday 14th July, 2017 from 9.00am at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
In accordance with the provisions of
Article 10 of EAC Common Market Protocol, the Partner States guarantee the free
movement of workers who are citizens of the other Partner States within their

still constrained in their efforts to utilize freedom of movement of workers
due to delay and expensive cost to acquire permits evidenced by Tanzania
demanding an amount of USD.550 residence permit fee of and work permit fee in
excess of USD.1000 as a condition for issuing permit to workers from other EAC
Partner States.
EABC
Regional Public - Private Dialogue with Trade Facilitation Agencies will
attract over 50 business leaders from the EAC region who will receive status
update on implementation, new developments and success stories on the work done
by Tanzania Immigration Services
Department (TISD), Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Tanzania Revenue
Authority (TRA), Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), Surface and Marine Transport
Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA), Tanzania
Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) and Tanzania Trade Network Agency (TANTRADE) among other Trade
Facilitation Agencies.
“The
forum provides an opportunity for government officials to discuss progress made
in facilitating movement of goods and services across the EAC region” said Ms.
Lilian Awinja EABC CEO.
Prof.
Adolf F. Mkenda, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment
will be in attendance. EABC Chairman and
