Arusha, Tanzania, 25th March, 2018:- - Winners of the first
edition of the EABC Business Excellence Awards were announced and feted
during the grand gala dinner at Kenyatta International Convention Centre in
Nairobi, Kenya on the evening of 23rd March 2018, after the one day
high level conference themed “Beyond East Africa – Moving from Aspiration
to Action”.
After thorough review of the award entries by an independent
panel of judges, Equity Group Holdings won the Overall Best Regional Company
award.
This is the first edition of the awards, which were launched by
the East African Business Council on 10th January 2018, to recognize
and showcase businesses that have achieved excellence in various aspects of
their operations across East Africa, keeping with the spirit of the East
African integration.
“The winners of the EABC Business Excellence Awards 2018 earned
the ultimate business accolade of business excellence among peers in the East
African region.” said Ms. Lilian Awinja, EABC CEO.
The awards received a total of 109 entries from East African
countries. Equity Holdings Ltd won the Overall Best Regional Company award
category, having shown expansion and reach across the EAC region, with demonstrable
impact on the EAC economies, in terms of employment, innovative solutions or

November 2017 marked the
attainment of EABC’s 20th Anniversary since formation in 1997, a
milestone to celebrate 20 years of dedicated advocacy for the Private Sector in
East Africa and to showcase companies that have taken advantage of the EAC
Regional integration process doing business across the EAC region.
The EABC 20th
Anniversary Celebrations is honored to have a great list of supporters: East

About EABC
The East African
Business Council (EABC) is the apex advocacy body of the Private Sector and
Corporates from the 6 East African Countries. It was established in 1997 to
foster the interests of the Private Sector in the integration process of the
East African Community. Originally comprising members from Kenya, Tanzania and
Uganda, its membership was expanded to include Private Sector from Burundi and
Rwanda in 2007 as well as and South Sudan in 2017.
Being the representative
of Private Sector associations in the region, EABC was granted observer status
in organs and activities of the East African Community (EAC). EABC therefore
participates in various sectoral meetings, meetings of the Coordination
Committee, Council of Ministers’ Meetings and the Summit of the EAC Heads of
State, with a view to ensuring that the agenda of the Private Sector is well
articulated and received by the policy makers.

EABC Membership is drawn
from the six East African Partner States and is open to all national and
regional associations as well as Corporates with interest in the EAC
integration process or/and operations in the region.

Sector Apex Bodies; National Manufacturers’ Associations; National Chambers of
Commerce, Employer’s Associations; National Women Associations, Transporters
Associations, National Bankers Associations, Employers’ Associations and
various Regional Associations among others.
