FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The regional Centre of Excellence for Information and
Communications Technology in East Africa (CENIT@EA) organised its second
ICT4Business event on 10 September in Kampala, Uganda. Around 30
participants from the private sector met at the Uganda Manufacturing
Association (UMA) to discuss their needs and requirements for digitalisation
and how CENIT@EA can provide them with relevant skills, capacities and know-how
for their digital transformation.
The event was co-organised by the
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the East African
Business Council (EABC) and the Private Sector Federation Uganda (PSFU).
Opening remarks from PSFU, EABC and the Inter-University Council for East
Africa (IUCEA) highlighted the need for digitalisation in the private sector
and the benefits of collaboration with academia.
Dr Anael Sam from CENIT@EA
introduced the participants to the benefits and trends of digitalisation for
the private sector as well as to CENIT@EA. Ms Lyn Tukei from Xente Tech Ltd
provided a best practice example for digitalisation, showcasing Xente’s
applications in the field of online payment.
The presentations were followed by a
discussion, determining jointly with the participants concrete areas for
collaboration such as entrepreneurship and concrete needs of the private sector
such as online trainings. It was also highlighted that CENIT@EA should improve
ICT related teaching in other universities in the East African Community (EAC)
through trainings for lecturers for instance.
