African Business and Entrepreneurship Conference to hold a session on ICT and e-Commerce.
Arusha, Tanzania: October 25th, 2017: Information
Communication Technology (ICT) is a major trade enabler for tourism, education
and agriculture.
Countless components of the ICT Sector
are cross-cutting & cross-border hence a harmonized legal and regulatory
framework is best fit to fast track the region’s social and economic development.

border infrastructure development, interoperability of infrastructure, cross
border connectivity, increased digitalization of government processes to reduce
transaction costs and ensure efficient and quality public services delivery.”
said Ms. Lilian Awinja, EABC CEO .
One of the latest ICT achievements and
development include the world's first national drone delivery system, which
will be used to deliver blood to patients in remote areas of Rwanda, while Kenya,
Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan joined One Network Area (ONA) to reduce telecommunication costs within and across the borders.
Technological innovations related to custom
operations such as electronic passports, tax collection, bonds, forms, cargo
tracking systems, security checks can support the region’s economic growth
through enhancing the ease of doing business in the region by reducing costs,
time, bureaucracy and increase security.
“Technological innovations can fast-track
movement of goods in the East Africa region.” said Ms. Lilian Awinja, EABC CEO.
Mobile banking, mobile money transfer,
e-transactions and other financial innovations that analyze business inputs,
payments and stocks are boosting financial inclusion in the region. Indeed, ICT
can provide adequate, up-to-date and reliable market intelligence for business
and economic growth.

The 2nd East African
Business and Entrepreneurship Conference & Exhibition scheduled to take
place from 14th – 16th November 2017 in Dar es salaam Tanzania; will hold a
session on ICT and ecommerce.
High-level government and private sector decision makers from the EAC
Partner States as well as business leaders, industry experts such as Mr. Robert Ford, Chief Coordinator,
Northern Corridor Technology Alliance; Mr.
Nicholas Nesbitt, Managing Director, IBM Central and East Africa, Kenya,;
Mr. Emmanuel Tarus Cheburet , Senior
Manager-Regulatory Economics & Public Policy, Safaricom, Kenya; Dr.
Tunc Uyanik, Chief Executive Officer, World SME Forum, Turkey; Mr.
Al-Amin Kheraj, Chief Operational Officer, Jumia, Tanzania and Mr.
Alain Nkazamurego Co-founder & Director, Made in Rwanda Online,
Rwanda are expected to lead deliberations on the
current policies and missing policy links in the region’s ICT and e-commerce
sector. The conference will show case
the R&D and innovations in ICT to promote trade-links, network interoperability and e-market
in bid to increasing market access and optimizing business models , enhance
regional economic growth and integration.
The conference will also host session
highlights on Urbanization, Cotton and Textiles, Patents and Copyrights in the
Creative Industry, Trade and Gender, Health, agri-business plus a “Start-up
Corner” in bid to boost entrepreneurship and attract investments in the region.
In addition, the East African Diaspora will be strongly engaged to amplify
investment into the region. The simultaneous exhibition will give participants
the possibility to present themselves and serve as points of contact for their
organizations and businesses.

The
1st East African Business and Entrepreneurship Conference and
Exhibition was held from the 10th to 13th October, 2016
in Nairobi, Kenya; under the theme “Scaling up the Spirit and Bonds of
Integration through Entrepreneurship”, more than 300 participants from 14
countries took the opportunity to discuss entrepreneurial trends, investment
opportunities and existing constraints for businesses in East Africa Region.
