Arusha; July 11, 2016--- The East African Business Council (EABC) in conjunction with
the East African Community Secretariat (EAC), Trademark East Africa (TMEA) and
Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) will be hosting the Public Private
Dialogue (PPD) with key trade facilitation agencies in Tanzania.
Slated for July 13th, 2016, a
one-day meeting will be held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention
Centre in Dar es Salaam, where business community will engage Tanzania Revenue
Authority (TRA), Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Tanzania Food and Drugs
Authority (TFDA) and Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) on various issues.
The crucial PPD forum is expected to bring
together various stakeholders from both the public and the private sectors to
discuss major developments as well as address key challenges facing
entrepreneurs across the EAC region in conducting trade in Tanzania.
Key officials from the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, East African, Regional and International Cooperation and the Ministry
of Industry, Trade and Investment, Tanzania are also expected to grace the
occasion.
“Overall, the
meeting aims to provide viable solutions that will enhance a conducive business
environment in Tanzania hence increase intra-EAC trade” says EABC CEO Ms Lilian
Awinja.
During the public-private dialogue forum the
EAC business community will be seeking an understanding of new developments
with regard to the work of trade facilitation agencies and clarifications on
issues affecting their businesses.
“We believe that
this meeting will go a long way in facilitating and enhancing Intra-EAC Trade”
Ms Awinja explains.
Specifically, the key objectives of the
public-private dialogue forum is to provide opportunity to officials of the
Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) to interact with the EAC business community
on various requirements regarding compliance with standards within Tanzania.
The forum also will offer opportunity for
Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) officials to interact with the EAC business
community on various tax requirements and compliance in Tanzania particularly
those that are applied to goods from the EAC region.
The talks will also be a good platform for
Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to interact with the EAC business Community on
new developments at the Tanzania Port and the progress towards making it a more
efficient port in service to East Africans.
Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA)
officials will also have an opportunity to intermingle with EAC business
community and clarify on various requirements regarding compliance with
technical regulations for entry of food, drugs, cosmetics and other products
into Tanzania.
More crucially, the PPD will provide an
opportunity for the business community to meet, to interact and to network with
senior government officials and officials of trade facilitation agencies from
Tanzania.
“The Chairperson of
the EAC Council of Ministers, officials of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and
Investment and other relevant ministries from Tanzania will attend the Forum”
Ms Awinja says.
EABC Chairman and board of Directors will be
present to actively contribute to the discussions.
